Mission:
To conserve
plant diversity on the Arabian Peninsula by developing and
executing programme to save, restore and manage wisely, wild
plant species and their habitats.
Purpose:
- To
mobilize action by the conservation community of the Arabian
Peninsula on behalf of plant species, in particular those
threatened with extinction and those important to human
welfare;
- To
guide, develop and monitor progress in the conservation
of plants on the Arabian Peninsula, and reduce the threats
posed to plant species, communities and associations, through
increased awareness of the value of plants to sustaining
ecosystems.
Goals:
- To
assess the conservation status of plant species in the Arabian
peninsula;
- To
identify conservation priorities for species and their habitats
and develop strategies for their conservation;
- To
initiate the actions necessary for the survival of the species;
- To
develop and promote policies for species conservation;
- To
provide an expert resource network on the conservation of
plant species diversity.
Objectives:
- To
promote the practical implementation of the principles of
Caring for the Earth, with particular emphases on the conservation
of plant diversity and on ensuring that the use of species
does not exceed sustainable levels.
- To
asses plant species conservation priorities through an Action
Planning Programme, assemble regional summaries of priorities
in plant species and habitat conservation, and deliver the
recommendations of Action Plans and regional plant diversity
assessments to appropriate agencies and organizations within
the global conservation community, with particular emphasis
on IUCN members.
- To
promote the implementation of plant species conservation
Action Plans by governmental and non-governmental conservation
agencies, with particular emphasis on IUCN members.
- To
develop policies and guidelines concerning the conservation
of plant species and plant generic resources and to notify
governments and the conservation community.
