Climate

The rainfall varies from 50 - 500 mm per year according to geographic region, with great fluctuations in the amount from year to year and from month to month, which affects vegetation and plant phenology greatly. In general the mountain ranges receive the most rainfall which becomes less towards the Eastern Desert, and towards the Rift Valley. Temperatures vary markedly in Jordan due to the variation in altitude. The extreme grades recorded in Jordan range from -10 to 45° C. In general the mean annual minimal temperature range is 5-15° C and the mean maximum temperature range is 20-30° C. The mountain ranges have the lowest temperatures which increase towards the east in Badia and, markedly in the Rift Valley.
